Supported hardware and firmware
Static IP allocation is supported on the IXrouter3 in firmware 3.10 and up. Please upgrade your firmware if you are running an older version.Generally, you configure your PLCs, HMIs, and controllers with a static IP address to ensure that you can always access that device at a specific IP address. Saving you time that you would otherwise have to spend searching for the IP address or trying out different addresses. Especially valuable in time-sensitive situations.
In situations where your devices are set to automatically request an IP address you are never sure about their IP address, as it can be different the next day. Whenever such a device requests an IP address, it receives a lease for a random IP address. When you add a static lease in the configuration of the IXrouter, that device will always receive a lease for the same IP address, ensuring that you can always access that device at a specific IP address.
The following steps explain how you add a static IP lease to the configuration of your IXrouter.
- Go to [Devices] in the main menu
, select the concerning device
, open its [Config] tab
, and edit
the LAN settings
.
- Press [Show more] in the top right corner
.
- Look for "DHCP server", followed by "Static IP allocation". Press [Add static IP lease]
, enter the MAC address of your PLC, HMI, or controller (often found on the device itself)
, and enter the IP address that you would like it to receive
.
IP address choice
To prevent IP conflicts, make sure that the IP address you enter is outside of the DHCP servers' dynamic range.Temporary disconnect
- Finally, press [Push changes]
in the config tab to complete the setup.
