Generally, you only have one subnet on location, also called IP range. This is depicted by the machine network below, where the subnet is 192.168.140.X.
However, there may be situations where you have more than one subnet. For example when the PLC has 2 Ethernet ports, both with different subnets, where one is connected to the IXrouter (i.e. subnet 192.168.140.X) and one is connected to another device, like an HMI (i.e. subnet 192.168.1.X). The PLC will then act as a gateway between the subnets.
Information
Define additional subnets
The following steps will teach you how to define additional subnets in the LAN settings of the IXrouter.
- Go to [Devices] in the main menu
, select the concerning device
, open its [Config] tab
, and edit
the LAN settings
.
- Press [Show more] in the top right corner
.
- Press [Add additional subnet] at the bottom of the page
.
- Here you enter information about how the subnet can be reached. Enter the additional subnet's network address and network mask. The network address is the first number in the subnet (i.e. 192.168.1.0). The network mask is commonly 255.255.255.0, but may be different for your device. The gateway device (i.e. PLC) also has an IP address in the same subnet as the IXrouter, this is the gateway address.
Example
The additional subnet's network address and network mask are determined by the network settings on the gateway device (i.e. PLC). Let's say its first network port, which is connected to the IXrouter, is configured as: IP address 192.168.140.108 with network mask 255.255.255.0 and its second network port is configured as: IP address 192.168.1.10 with network mask 255.255.255.0.The network address is the first number in the subnet, which would then be: 192.168.1.0. The network mask is the same: 255.255.255.0. The gateway address is its IP address in the same subnet as the IXrouter, meaning it's 192.168.140.108. The result looks like this:
Temporary disconnect
- Finally, press [Push changes]
in the config tab to complete the setup.
