Support for scanning / searching
Scanning for devices with Automation Studio is supported on the IXrouter2 in firmware 2.9 and up, and on the IXrouter3 in firmware 3.4 and up. Please upgrade your firmware if you are running an older version. This article will help you to remotely connect to your B&R device using the IXON Cloud to set up a secure remote connection.
The prerequisites for this guide are
- B&R industrial hardware (equipped with Ethernet). The device used in this guide is an X20CP1583 from B&R.
- IXrouter registered to your company on the IXON Cloud (view our IXrouter registration guide)
- IXON Cloud account (view our getting started guide)
The following chapters will show you how to connect to your B&R device:
Configure your B&R controller
This chapter explains how to configure your B&R controller for remote access using B&R Automation Studio.
- Once you have opened your project, go to the project's Physical View, right-click your device and select [Configuration].
- Go to [Ethernet Parameters] and change the Default gateway. Make sure that it is set to the IP address of the IXrouter.
- Right-click the [ETH] part of your device in the Physical View and select [Configuration].
- Go to [Single CPU parameters] and change the [Mode] to "enter IP address manually". Next you can enter the device's (new) IP address and subnet mask in the fields below. The IP address needs to share the subnet of your IXrouter but cannot match their exact IP address. The subnet could for example be "192.168.140", meaning the last figure ".1" can vary anywhere from 1 to 254 as long as it's different from the IXrouter. The subnet mask needs to be the same as the IXrouter, which is usually 255.255.255.0. The (default) gateway should be set to the IP address of the IXrouter.
- The next step is to transfer the new settings to the device. Go to [Online] > [Settings...].
- If the auto-search finds your device, you can right-click it and select [Add to Connections] to easily connect to it later.
- Otherwise you'll have to manually add your device by pressing [New connection].
- Right-click your connection and press [Connect].
- Lastly, you can transfer your project to the device by pressing [Transfer], which should no longer be grayed out.
